Children Story
IN THE MOUNTAINS OF ALBANIA
Author: Teresa Dello Monaco
In the mountains of Albania, where the clouds seemed to touch the rocks, lived two young cifteli players, Drin, a boy, and Mimoza, a girl. The cifteli was a magical instrument: it had only two strings, but it could make the air dance with sweet, ancient sounds. The thinner string sang, while the bigger one murmured like a hidden river.created. This wonderful instrument, which from then until today, is considered one of the most popular traditional Armenian instruments.
One evening, during a village celebration, the couple began playing a mysterious melody found in an old family book that hadn't been used for a very long time, perhaps two hundred years.
As the notes wafted through the air, a green light began to shine among the tall, beautiful fir trees of the forest.
Everyone stopped dancing: a fragrant wind came from the forest that seemed to whisper the same notes as the cifteli!
Drin and Mimoza continued playing, and the light transformed into fox made of little stars. It danced around them.
Then, with a leap, it disappeared, leaving behind a silver feather that Mimoza picked up and gave to the older woman.
From that day on, every time they played that melody, the fox returned to listen, danced for a few minutes, and then suddenly disappeared, and no one could ever guess which direction it had gone.
